In July, my husband and I traveled to St. Simons Island when we discovered that the Fourth of July weekend gave us some “off days” that were perfect for exploring! Sometimes, I love booking last minute trips…especially when everything seems to fall into place so easily. A lovely (affordable) Airbnb half a block from the beach: check. Weather forecast looks good: check. Cat sitter available: check. Well, looks like we’re heading back to the Georgia coastline! We previously went to Tybee & Savannah back in March, and while we didn’t have time to venture to SSI during that trip, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to visit a new (to us) beach town!
Our days were spent beachside, wandering the mossy streets, touring the lighthouse, discovering tree spirits, and gorging ourselves on seafood! We also took a day trip to Jekyll Island – how could you not?! Exploring the Driftwood Beach was so cool! On the way to the turtle sanctuary, we stopped along the ruins and ventured down paths that had historic markers. After an awesome visit to the Sea Turtle Center, we enjoyed a happy hour pint and some (more) delicious seafood at The Wharf before a bit of gawking around the grounds of Jekyll Islands Club Resort.
I adored the vibes of SSI! It’s a delightful combination of historic homes among locally owned restaurants (Dorothy’s was a personal fave and highlight of the trip) with super friendly folks – local and vacationing from all over! Since we were in town during the Fourth of July, there were several celebrations: a golf cart parade, an artist and local vendor market, and a fantastic firework show right on the beach (and a bonus getting to also watch the fireworks from Jekyll Island).
Anyway, onto the visuals! I brought my Holga (with expired Ektar 100) and my Olympus XA loaded with P400.
